Mingus Mapps

There’s someone in Portland running for office named Mingus Mapps, which is the most Harry Potter name for a muggle we’ve ever heard.

We both took a shot at drawing what we thought he might look like.

Here’s Hannah’s version. She imagined he was a kind of hipster geography professor. But Chris dubbed him Disco Wizard.

And this is Chris’s and he’s ADORABLE. He’s holding a doubloon.

Friends

OK, we haven’t posted in a million years. And it’s not that things haven’t been happening! We moved to a HOUSE after all. But in the past week we’ve had TWO adventures with friends that are definitely worth remembering.

On Thursday we went to Elk Island with friends and got to enjoy the water and the sunset. (Until the Trump Boaters arrived.)

And today we got to host some special visitors in our backyard. Thanks, Elise, Scott, and Penny for being our first backyard visitors!

Hawaiian Theme Party

One of the strangest aspects of the pandemic is not knowing when we’ll be able to travel again. I’ve been thinking about Hawaii…a place I daydream about whenever life gets overly challenging. So when Sarah was looking for a theme for our virtual theme party, I suggested Hawaii. It was a nice full circle moment because our first ever theme party was also Hawaiian-themed, and was almost exactly 21 years ago, on my 19th birthday.

Chris and I had fun decorating our couch area to look a little more tropical. And we all made Hawaiian food, and had a common dessert - coconut pudding! It was surprisingly free of technical difficulties, and a good time was had by all. We also had a brief interlude where we listened to Obama’s address to the nation’s high school graduates. What a breath of fresh air!

A few things

Since our last update, we’ve done a few things:

  • Two Poopsie Pops working sessions

  • Two Art Nights with friends

  • Had Fro-Yo delivered

  • Celebrated our six year wedding anniversary with slow cooker pineapple chicken tacos and margaritas

That counts as a very busy two weeks in quartantimes.

Escape!

We did a virtual space-themed escape room with our friends Hot Scoffy (and baby Penny) and Joshuar.

We solved the puzzles and helped the trapped astronaut get back to earth!

Forgot to take pictures during the event, so please enjoy yet another photo of my computer screen with some faces on it.

Easter eggs!

Today I made Easter eggs with friends. They were properly attired and I felt left out so I put together an impromptu Halloween/Christmas costume.

IMG-6530.jpg

The best egg I made was tropical themed with a pineapple on one side and a flamingo on the other.

Art Party #2

This time Hannah tried her hand at knitting, and Chris sourced some art assets for one of his games (not pictured).

Note: Hannah is better at other things than knitting.

Cupcakes!

We ordered six of these red velvet cupcakes from local 100% gluten-free business Kyra’s Bakeshop.

Parts of our isolated life are really quite delicious.

Trivia!

Hot Scoffy invited us to a trivia night via Zoom. We didn’t win, but we had the best team name (“And in last place…”)

Somehow I managed to only get one terrible photo of one of the two screens we had going. This screen was our hangout with Elise and Scott (and their baby!); the other screen was the zoom call with a bunch of funny-hatted strangers who knew a lot of things about a lot of unimportant topics.

Art party!

Our friends Ero and Su invited us to an art party!

Chris did some charcoal art

And Hannah made an articulated paper unicorn

...and Poopsie Pops!

We’ve actually been working on this game for months. Chris is coding it, and Hannah made the art. It’s about an owl named Moose who has to fend off enemies (a thieving raccoon, a swooping magpie, a speedy narwhal, the tractor beam from a UFO, and a chilly pair of ghosts) while collecting Poopsie Pops for the lab where he works.
